Around 13,000 people gathered in Whitehall to protest the Budget announcement of changes to Agricultural Property Relief, which will severely affect family farms.
The turnout exceeded expectations meaning that the protesters were unable to march around Parliament Square as planned. Instead, they heard speeches from a range of people including: farmers, Kemi Badenoch, and Jeremy Clarkson.
Expressing his support for the farmers, James said
“It was powerful to hear farmers speak so passionately about the destructive impacts this policy will have on their family farms.
Many of my family and friends will be impacted by the policy. I stand united with farmers from all corners of the county - many here today braving the cold and rain - in voicing our displeasure.
The Government must understand that this policy has existential consequences for family farms that are asset rich and cash poor. I hope they will realise the unintended consequences and reverse this policy.”
